Custom Walk-In Closet & Built-In Cabinetry in Thornhill

This Thornhill condo project turned a walk-in closet into a fitted storage system with integrated lighting, glass shelving, pull-down hanging rails and slide-out corner storage. Coordinated bedroom cabinetry, two illuminated feature walls and new pot lights carried the same tailored approach through the condo.

Project overview

Storage built around the condo

We fitted a walk-in closet and bedroom cabinetry in this condo near Bathurst Street and Steeles Avenue. Pull-down hanging rails and a sliding corner shelf make the upper and deeper storage easier to reach.

Full-height fitted storage combines drawers, open shelves, hanging bays and lighting inside the walk-in closet.
Shelves, drawers, hanging space and accessible upper storage work together as one custom system.

Making every wall and corner useful

Drawers sit below open shelves and hanging bays, with cabinetry built to the available walls and ceiling height.

Drawers, hanging space and illuminated shelves make different types of storage visible and easy to organize.

Built-in closet lighting

Lighting built into the storage

Light runs beside the shelves and under the upper panels, reaching into the hanging bays and corners.

Integrated lighting reaches the hanging bay and shelf edges directly.

Pull-down upper hanging storage

Bringing high hanging storage within reach

A handle lowers the upper hanging rail and its clothing toward the user. The rail then returns overhead, leaving the lower storage clear.

The handle lowers the upper hanging rail toward a more accessible working height.

Making the corner useful

Bringing deep corner storage forward

A shelf pulls out from the deep corner, bringing its contents past the neighbouring cabinet. Items at the back are easier to reach when it is extended.

The extended shelf brings storage out of the difficult corner and within easier reach.

An illuminated glass display cabinet

Glass doors enclose the tall display cabinet. Light passes through the glass shelves to the lower levels.

Master-bedroom cabinetry

Built-in storage for the primary bedroom

A fitted cabinet in the bedroom combines full-height enclosed storage with a bank of drawers. Its finish matches the closet cabinetry.

The master-bedroom cabinet adds enclosed vertical storage and a bank of drawers in a fitted footprint.

Feature walls

Illuminated feature walls in the bedroom and foyer

Dark fluted panels form the bedroom headboard wall, with lighting at the sides. In the foyer, a similar wall has concealed doors and a vertical strip of light.

The master-bedroom feature wall uses vertical texture and integrated illumination behind the bed.
At the entrance, the illuminated feature wall adds depth while concealed doors remain within the composition.

Lighting as part of the design

Planning task, accent and general lighting together

Pot lights illuminate the foyer and bedrooms. Within the closet, the built-in lights reach the shelves and clothes directly.

Pot lights provide general illumination while the feature-wall lighting defines the entrance.

Space efficiency and finished result

Useful details shape the finished closet

The closet combines open hanging space, drawers and glass-fronted storage. The pull-down rails and sliding corner shelf make use of areas that would otherwise be difficult to reach.

The completed closet combines two upper hanging bays with lit shelving and lower storage.
