GLASS REPLACEMENT · VAUGHAN, WOODBRIDGE & THE GTA

Window Glass Replacement in Vaughan & the GTA

Broken or foggy glass does not always mean buying a new window.

Strataline replaces damaged window glass and failed sealed units where the existing frame can be retained. We assess the window, take accurate measurements and explain the replacement options before you decide.

Start with the glass

A clearer view. A considered repair.

Different problems need different glass and installation details. Tell us what you see, and we’ll help you work out the next step.

Broken window glass

A crack, impact mark or shattered pane can leave an otherwise usable window in need of attention. Strataline checks the glass, sash and frame to see whether a glass replacement can keep the existing opening in service.

The frame is the fixed outer structure. The sash holds the glass and may open for ventilation. If both remain sound and the glazing system can be serviced, replacing the glass may preserve the existing window, trim and room finishes.

Foggy windows & sealed units

Cloudiness that sits between panes can point to a failed insulated glass unit. Strataline assesses the seal, sash and frame, then explains whether a replacement sealed unit can restore a clear view while retaining the window.

Room-side condensation forms on the accessible surface of the glass when moisture in the air meets a cold surface. Exterior condensation can also appear under suitable weather conditions. Neither, on its own, proves that the sealed unit has failed.

Door glass replacement

Damaged glass in an entry door, sidelight or transom does not always require a new entrance. Strataline reviews the panel, insert surround and frame to determine whether the glass or insert assembly can be replaced.

A door’s glass may sit in an insert frame or form part of a factory-built panel. The narrow glass beside a door is a sidelight; a transom is the glazed section above. Each needs its own measurements and an assessment of how it is held in place.

Patio-door glass replacement

A large patio-door pane can become cracked, damaged or cloudy between the glass. Strataline assesses sliding and hinged garden-door systems to see whether replacement glass can retain the existing panel and frame.

Patio doors combine a large glass area with a panel, frame, seals and operating hardware. We check how the glass is retained, the panel’s condition and whether the replacement assembly is available for that system.

Keep what still works

New glass or a whole new window?

The right choice depends on the opening around the glass. We check the frame, sash, seals and operation before recommending a replacement.

When glass replacement makes sense

The frame and sash remain sound, the window works properly and compatible replacement glass can be installed. Keeping those parts may preserve the surrounding trim and finishes.

When to consider a new window

Rot, distortion, recurring water entry or damaged components can make a larger repair necessary. Some factory-built systems need a replacement sash or panel rather than separate glass.

Care for the glass.
Respect for the home.

Careful assessment and measuring

Glass dimensions are only part of the job. We consider the system, access and condition before the order.

Protection of surrounding finishes

We plan the work around floors, trim and the room, with cleanup and disposal included in the agreed scope.

A straightforward conversation

Understand the replacement specification and any related repairs, then decide with a clear picture of the work.

From first photos to final fit

Four steps to replacement

  1. 01

    Send photos or call

Tell us what has happened, how many panes are affected and where the property is. Photos help us prepare for the assessment.

  2. 02

    Assess and measure

We check the glass, sash, frame and access, then take the measurements needed for a suitable replacement.

  3. 03

    Confirm the order

Review the specification, price, expected production time and installation scope before the glass is ordered.

  4. 04

    Install and clean up

Protect the surrounding finishes, replace the glass and complete the agreed sealing, disposal and cleanup.

A quote for your opening

What affects the price?

The quote depends on the glass and the work needed to fit it properly. Photos help us start the conversation; final measurements and the specification determine the order.

Allow for measuring and fabrication

Custom dimensions, unit construction, coatings, grids and supplier production all affect timing. We discuss the expected schedule before ordering, then coordinate installation and cleanup. Glass replacement is not a promise of same-day custom fabrication.

We had an excellent experience working with Maxim and Strataline Inc. Installing and perfectly matching a custom stain for our oak treads was no small task, and the addition of the square posts made it an even greater technical challenge—but everything was executed flawlessly.

FAQ

Questions before replacing your glass

Can damaged glass be replaced without replacing the whole window?

Often, when the frame and sash are sound and the system can be reglazed. For an insulated unit, the panes and edge seal form an assembly, so damage to one pane generally calls for assessment of the complete sealed unit. Rot, distortion or unavailable compatible parts can change the recommendation. The surrounding frame is checked before deciding on a glass-only repair.

What does fogging between the panes usually mean?

Persistent moisture inside a sealed glass assembly calls for assessment of the unit and its edge seal. It cannot be wiped off by cleaning the exposed surfaces. A suitable sash and frame may allow the sealed unit to be replaced without changing the entire window. Frame condition, glazing details and the availability of compatible parts determine whether that repair is practical.

Why can condensation appear on a window that is not leaking?

Moisture on an accessible room-side or outside glass surface can result from the relationship between temperature and humidity. That differs from moisture trapped between sealed panes. Identify which surface is affected and when it appears before deciding on a repair. Replacing glass does not automatically resolve the room conditions that produce surface condensation.

Why does replacement glass need its own final measurement?

The visible glass area is not necessarily the ordering size. The unit’s thickness, construction, edge arrangement and fit within the sash or panel also need checking. Photographs support an initial review, but fabrication needs confirmed dimensions and specifications. Ordering by the exposed pane alone can produce glass that does not suit the existing glazing system.

Can replacement glass match the nearby panes?

We review visible tint, spacer appearance, internal grids, privacy texture and other details relevant to the opening. The original product or pattern may no longer be available, so an exact match cannot be assumed. Confirm the proposed appearance before ordering, particularly where adjacent units will be seen together. The glass specification still needs to suit the retained system.

What affects the wait for replacement glass?

Dimensions, shape, glass construction, decorative details, supplier production and access for installation affect timing. Measurement, fabrication and installation are separate stages. The expected sequence is discussed with the quote once the required unit is understood. A standard-looking opening can still need a custom sealed assembly, so an immediate replacement should not be assumed from a photograph.

What if water is entering around the window frame?

The source needs investigation before choosing a glass repair or replacement. Water can travel through surrounding wall details, frame joints or drainage paths and appear at a different point inside. We document deterioration revealed during removal and discuss the required correction. A new unit and fresh caulking should not conceal an unresolved wall or flashing problem.

What does Strataline’s lifetime workmanship warranty cover?

We warrant our labour and installation to the original client for as long as that client owns the property, subject to the applicable manufacturer-warranty period for supplied products. Where no meaningful manufacturer warranty exists, workmanship coverage continues through the original client’s ownership. If a problem is caused by our workmanship, we return and correct it. Coverage ends when the property is sold or another contractor modifies or repairs the covered work.

The warranty covers genuine labour or installation defects. It excludes ordinary dirt, normal wear, accidental damage, misuse, inadequate maintenance, unrelated water intrusion, structural movement and client-supplied product defects.

Can glass in a sidelight, transom or door panel be replaced?

Those openings can be assessed for a compatible glass or insert replacement. The frame and panel design determine whether the glass, an insert assembly or a complete panel is the practical repair. Decorative patterns and matching parts may have availability limits. Review the actual construction and required specification rather than assuming every door can accept a loose replacement pane.

Will new patio-door glass make a sliding panel move more easily?

Not necessarily. Rollers, tracks, alignment and the panel or frame condition affect sliding operation, while glass replacement addresses the glazing. Tell us about sticking or poor closure during the initial review so the recommendation covers both symptoms. A suitable glass repair can retain the door, but it should not be presented as a cure for unrelated mechanical wear.

What information helps assess broken glass safely?

Send an overall view and a closer photograph only if both can be taken safely from the floor or ground. Include the number of affected units, the location and any operating problems. Keep people and pets clear of the damaged area. Do not move loose fragments, operate a damaged sash or climb to obtain photographs for a quote.

Will replacing windows solve every draft in the room?

No. Drafts can come from the operating seals, frame joints, the installation perimeter or other parts of the room. The assessment should identify where air is entering before choosing the scope. A glass-only repair does not address failed weatherstripping or a wall-to-frame gap. Replacement needs to be coordinated with the actual cause of discomfort.

What is the difference between retrofit and full-frame replacement?

Retrofit or insert replacement keeps a suitable existing main frame and can preserve more of the surrounding finish. Full-frame replacement removes the old frame to expose more of the opening and allows jambs, trim and perimeter details to be rebuilt as specified. The existing condition determines the recommendation; preserving a deteriorated frame is not an advantage simply because less finish is disturbed.

What happens when removal exposes hidden damage?

We document the condition and explain what must be addressed before covering it. Rot, loose substrates, old leaks or concealed movement can change the preparation and construction scope. Additional work is discussed with the client before it proceeds, including the repair approach and its effect on price and sequence. A new finish should not conceal an unresolved cause.

Can you install products I buy myself, and who covers them?

We may install client-purchased doors, windows, flooring, tile, plumbing fixtures, lighting, hardware and similar products. We remain responsible for the workmanship of our own installation. You remain responsible for the product warranty, defects, missing components and compatibility.

Replacement products and additional removal or reinstallation caused by a client-supplied product failure are chargeable. Such products can also affect price and schedule, so send the complete product information before buying or booking installation.

Who handles a warranty claim for a product Strataline supplied?

For a potential manufacturing defect within the applicable warranty period, we inspect the issue, document the condition, gather photographs and evidence, communicate with the supplier or manufacturer, and coordinate the claim for you. Strataline covers removal and reinstallation labour associated with a valid supplied-product warranty issue.

The replacement product is governed by the manufacturer’s written warranty; approval is not guaranteed. If a claim is denied because we installed the product incorrectly, we correct our work.

How long is a quote valid, and are website prices before tax?

Written quotes are normally valid for 30 days unless the quote states otherwise. Public website price ranges are before HST. Supplier pricing and availability can change after a quote expires, so an older estimate should be reconfirmed before products are ordered or a date is booked. The current written agreement sets the amount and terms for your project.

Is my deposit refundable before products are ordered?

Deposits are refundable before materials or products are ordered. Custom and special-order products become non-refundable once ordered, so confirm the selections and ordering status when discussing a cancellation. The deposit also reserves the project date. The written agreement should identify the ordering status and the commitments already made.
