Not all security glazing does the same job

Anti-smash glazing is intended to resist or delay an intruder trying to create an opening. The appropriate solution depends on the product, its test documentation and how it is installed.

The objective is a properly specified barrier suited to the opening—not a promise of unbreakable glass or a guaranteed delay.

Safety and security film

Certain film-and-attachment systems help retain broken glass and can delay forced entry under specified conditions. Performance depends on the product, existing glass, attachment and installation. Ordinary security film should not be sold as bullet-resistant glass.

Security laminated glazing

Laminated glazing can retain broken material, but a laminated pane is not automatically a rated forced-entry system. The glass make-up and the way it is held in the frame need to match the intended application and supporting documentation.

Retrofit security panels

Purpose-designed panels and framing can provide another route around suitable existing openings. Compatibility, appearance, cleaning access, fixings and door operation should be checked before selecting a system.

The right choice depends on the required protection and existing opening, not the product category alone.

Keep the frame in the conversation

Glazing performance cannot be reduced to thickness alone. A security panel needs suitable framing, retention and installation details.

Existing doors and adjacent panes should be considered where they affect the scope. For a retail frontage, assess the arrangement rather than treating the display window as an isolated purchase.

A practical route to a quote

Start with the concern. Tell us whether the objective is smash-and-grab resistance, repeated vandalism or another forced-entry concern.

Review the opening. Share the city, general photos and approximate sizes. A site review may be needed to confirm suitability and dimensions.

Confirm the system and scope. The proposal should identify the product, relevant documentation, framing, installation and agreed finishing.

Plan the installation. Confirm availability, access and scheduling before work is booked.

What affects anti-smash glazing cost?

Opening area and quantity, the proposed product, framing, existing condition, door work and access influence the price.

FAQ

Anti-smash glazing questions

Is anti-smash glass the same as bullet-resistant glass?

No. Forced-entry resistance and bullet resistance are different requirements. A product may address one or both, but each claim needs supporting documentation.

Can the glass still crack or break?

Visible damage can occur, depending on the system and event. Retaining a barrier and resisting entry are different from guaranteeing a damage-free pane. Damaged glazing and framing need assessment under the manufacturer’s guidance.

Can a retrofit avoid replacing the whole storefront?

Possibly. Suitability depends on the product, fixing locations, frame condition and opening arrangement. The quote should identify what remains and what changes.

Is security film enough?

That depends on the objective and documented performance of the complete film, glass and attachment arrangement. Film should not be presented as equivalent to every security panel or as bullet-resistant protection.

How many minutes of protection will I get?

There is no universal number. Any stated delay must come from relevant test documentation for the specified configuration and test conditions, not a guarantee of how every incident will unfold.

Will it work with glass entrance doors?

Some systems are designed for entrance applications. The proposed solution must account for the door, frame, hardware, access and exit functions. Suitability is checked for the actual opening.
