Compare both options with the same entrance layout, glass, finish, hardware and installation scope. Review the supplied product’s care instructions and warranty alongside the price.

Configuration
A single door keeps the opening simple. Sidelights add glass beside it; a transom adds light above. The opening dimensions determine the layouts to consider.
A focused entrance within the existing rough opening.
Added glass or visual width on one side.
A balanced entrance with glass on both sides.
A broad opening planned around swing, hardware and symmetry.
Daylight above the slab where opening height permits.
A complete glazed surround requiring exact field dimensions.
Cost & scope
The door system and the work around the opening determine the installed price.
The selected door system, removal, installation, sealing and agreed trim form the starting scope. Frame or wall repairs are identified separately.
The size and arrangement of glass, sidelights and a transom affect the system and finishing required. Compare complete entrances with the same hardware and scope.
Opening construction adds work beyond replacement, including the wall, support and surrounding finishes. Any drawings, approvals and landing changes are assessed with the opening.
Your written quote identifies the door, glass, hardware, removal and disposal, installation, sealing and agreed trim or painting, with delivery and HST treatment stated.
Request a door quoteInstallation quality
A smooth-closing door starts with a sound opening, an adjusted frame and a sealed perimeter. We finish the trim included in your quote.
We check the opening and support the frame so the door operates smoothly.
Insulation, sealing and water-management details are addressed as part of the installation.
Interior casing, exterior trim and any agreed finishing are planned before installation, then checked with you at completion.
If removal reveals damage outside the agreed scope, we document it and discuss the repair and price before additional work proceeds.
Finish, hardware & comfort
Start with a painted colour or wood-grain appearance. Compare a physical sample with your brick, siding and interior trim before selecting the finish.
Consider how the handle feels and how you want to lock the door. If you have a smart lock in mind, share its model so we can check it against the door preparation and locking system.
Review the lock, frame and strike together. The weather seals, sill and glass are also part of the system, so we explain the selected product’s care and performance information with your quote.
Patio and sliding doors
Choose how the door opens, then compare the usable opening, screen and sill with your room and exterior landing.
A panel moves alongside the fixed panel, leaving the floor clear of a door swing. Compare the clear opening width, screen track and sill height.
The pictured panel swings inward. Allow clear floor space for the swing and review the usable opening.

Exterior-door FAQ
Practical answers about choosing, measuring, ordering and installing an exterior door.
Size, glass, sidelights, transoms, hardware and finish affect the door price. Labour depends on the frame, access, sealing and agreed trim or repairs. A replacement in the existing opening is priced separately from opening construction. Your written quote identifies the product, installation, finishing, exclusions and applicable HST.
We measure, supply and install the selected door system. The written scope identifies the slab, frame, threshold, glass and hardware, plus removal and disposal of the old unit. Insulation, sealing and agreed trim work are planned together. Any retained components or additional wall repairs are identified before the order is approved.
Start with the finish you want. Steel offers a smooth painted appearance; fibreglass options include smooth and wood-grain surfaces. Compare the complete quoted systems, including glass, frame and hardware. We’ll review suitable choices for your entrance and explain their price and care requirements.
Timing includes the site measure, design approval, product ordering and work at your home. Supplier production varies with the selected system, glass and colour. Opening changes or hidden damage can add work. We confirm the expected production wait and installation schedule separately before the order is approved.
The quote defines the agreed finish on both sides of the entrance. It identifies casing, jamb extensions, exterior trim or brickmould, caulking and any capping, wall repair or painting included. These details vary with the opening. Review the listed inclusions and exclusions before approving the work.
Compare daylight, the view through the glass and privacy with light behind it. Frosted, textured and decorative appearances do not by themselves establish a privacy or performance rating. Review the full pattern and the supplier’s glass information for your selected door system before approving the order.
Send the exact lockset or smart-lock model before ordering. Compatibility depends on the door preparation, backset, thickness and locking system; conventional and multipoint locks are not interchangeable by default. We check preparation and clearances with the selected door. Separately supplied hardware must include the required fitting parts.
The work needs to address the source of the draft. Air can enter through weatherstripping, poor alignment, frame joints or the frame-to-wall connection. A new slab alone may leave a perimeter problem. We review the door’s operation and surrounding conditions so the proposed installation addresses the identified cause.
Yes, where the measured opening, structure and selected system allow. Sidelights add glazing beside the door; a transom adds glazing above it. Changing their size or arrangement can affect casing, exterior finishes and the opening itself. We assess those changes before confirming the design and ordering dimensions.
Yes, as part of exterior-opening work. The assessment includes operation, glass, threshold, surrounding water management and interior trim. A sliding panel that operates poorly may need different work from a failed glass unit or a damaged frame. The proposed scope should explain whether the complete system, selected components or the opening itself needs attention.
Yes, we can assess a window-to-door conversion. We check the wall, structure, services and exterior landing before defining the work and any required approvals. Our Aurora project converted a bedroom window into a glazed door onto the pool deck, with the surrounding opening and finishes completed together.
Send the full entrance from outside, the frame and trim inside, a close view of the threshold and a wider view of the steps, landing or porch. Include damage, drafts or operation problems and the configuration you want. These views help identify related work, but they do not replace the final measure required before ordering.
We warrant our labour and installation to the original client for as long as that client owns the property, subject to the applicable manufacturer-warranty period for supplied products. Where no meaningful manufacturer warranty exists, workmanship coverage continues through the original client’s ownership. If a problem is caused by our workmanship, we return and correct it. Coverage ends when the property is sold or another contractor modifies or repairs the covered work.
The warranty covers genuine labour or installation defects. It excludes ordinary dirt, normal wear, accidental damage, misuse, inadequate maintenance, unrelated water intrusion, structural movement and client-supplied product defects.
For a potential manufacturing defect within the applicable warranty period, we inspect the issue, document the condition, gather photographs and evidence, communicate with the supplier or manufacturer, and coordinate the claim for you. Strataline covers removal and reinstallation labour associated with a valid supplied-product warranty issue.
The replacement product is governed by the manufacturer’s written warranty; approval is not guaranteed. If a claim is denied because we installed the product incorrectly, we correct our work.
