PROJECT STORY · BARRIE

Front Door & Sliding Patio Door Replacement in Barrie

Two entrances, one day’s work. We replaced the front door and rear sliding patio door at this Barrie home, inspecting the framing after the old doors came out and finishing the new installations with maintenance-free trim. At the front, a dark door with decorative glass gave the brick entrance a distinctly different welcome.

A new welcome at the front

The old front door was a light-coloured panelled design with a small semicircular window at the top. Its replacement makes the glass a much stronger feature: a tall decorative insert set into a dark door, with a simple panel beneath it.

Against the existing brickwork, the darker finish gives the entrance more definition. The glass adds detail without needing an elaborate surround.

It is a substantial visual change within a small part of the house—the same front entrance, with a different first impression.

Looking beyond the door itself

Before the replacements went in, we removed the old doors and inspected the framing.

That step was part of the work at both entrances. A new door is the visible result, but the installation also involves the opening around it.

Once the framing had been checked, we fitted the new doors and completed the surrounding trim. The project covered the installation and its finish, rather than stopping with the doors themselves.

A new sliding door at the back

At the rear, we replaced the existing sliding patio door with a new unit.

The two-panel glazed arrangement keeps the rear entrance visually simple. Where the front door uses decorative glass and a dark finish, the patio door has a lighter frame and broad glazed panels.

The two entrances do not need to look identical to belong to the same renovation. Each has its own place in the house, and both were completed as part of the same day’s work.

Finished around the edges

New maintenance-free trim completed the installations.

The front entrance was finished on the inside as well as viewed from the porch. The decorative glass becomes part of the interior too, while the surrounding trim gives the doorway a clean outline.

Those edges matter. They are what make a replacement look finished rather than like a new door waiting for the next trade.

Both doors replaced in one day

The removals, framing inspections, new door installations and trim were completed in a single day.

At the front, the dark door and decorative glass changed the welcome. At the rear, the sliding entrance received its replacement. Different doors for different parts of the home, brought together in one completed project.

Was the framing inspected before the new doors were installed?

Yes. We removed the existing doors and checked the framing before fitting the replacements.

Did the installation include new trim?

Yes. New maintenance-free trim was included as part of completing the door installations, rather than leaving the surrounding finish for a separate job.
