Decorative wood flooring
A focal point within the floor.
A hardwood medallion brings a distinct pattern into the surrounding floor. Contrasting wood tones and the direction of the pieces can define a compass rose, a floral arrangement, a geometric composition or a personal emblem.
An inlay can also extend beyond a central medallion, forming a border or connecting one area of the floor with another. The design should belong to the room as a whole.
Start with the room, then the motif.
Room dimensions, the direction and colour of the surrounding flooring, a foyer centreline and a nearby staircase all influence the proportions and placement.
Bring a reference image, a motif or an early idea. We can discuss how it could relate to the room, whether it stands alone or connects with a border and other inlay details.
A place in the room
Let the layout lead.
- An entrance with a centre.
- A foyer or central hallway can give a medallion space to be seen on arrival.
- A gathering place.
- A dining room or great room can use a distinct floor pattern to define an area within a larger hardwood installation.
- A connection between spaces.
- A staircase landing, border or linked inlay can relate the floor to nearby stairs and adjoining rooms.
- A considered first impression.
- A commercial reception area may offer a setting for a custom motif, with the floor construction and the needs of the space guiding the design.

A history of custom woodwork.
Our earlier custom flooring work brings together individual patterns, contrasting wood combinations and decorative layouts.
From repeated geometry to individual motifs, the room and the idea guide each new design. Bring a starting point, and we can discuss how to make it part of your floor.
Consider the whole floor.
A custom medallion can be considered alongside a broader hardwood flooring, stair or interior finishing project. Planning those details together helps relate the decorative work to the surrounding floor and adjoining spaces.
