Keep the curves. Resolve the treads, railings and landings together. This Aurora renovation shows how a carpeted multi-level staircase can become a coordinated oak stair without losing its original shape.

The stair, railing, landings and floor were planned together so the original curved architecture could remain while every visible finish and termination was brought into the same design language.
Carpet covered the curved flights, wood spindles enclosed the stair, and the leading step and railing ends did not match from side to side.
The existing curved staircase structure remained after assessment. Suitable handrail and post elements were retained or modified for the new system.
Red-oak caps, white risers and black metal balusters replaced the old visible finish. A handmade railing curl and matching bullnose returns corrected the entrance details.
The flights, upper guards and approximately 600 square feet of new marble flooring were planned together. Protection and source extraction supported the work inside the occupied home.
Dark treads, white risers and slimmer balusters now carry the same rhythm from the entrance through the upper landings.

This staircase was capped with dark-stained red oak, fitted with new risers and trim, and finished with white risers and stringers. The same renovation included popcorn-ceiling removal and whole-home painting.
The doorway beside the staircase was widened and the stair opening was extended into the adjacent room. A matching second railing was added so the hallway, living room and dining room felt like one connected space.

The custom posts have chamfered tops without separate caps. Decorative accents are spaced more sparsely on the upper guard and stair run.
