What was there before
A runner and heavy finish concealed the original staircase. Once exposed, the underlying stair proved to be solid oak.
What remained
The existing solid-oak staircase was restored rather than replaced. Its curved form remained the starting point for the new finish and railing details.
Work completed
The oak was sanded back and stained to coordinate with new flooring. Square oak posts, satin-black spindles, white risers and white stringers completed the visible stair treatment.
Planning the work
Stair stain was selected alongside the new floors as the kitchen, bathrooms, trim and painting were coordinated through the same home renovation.
The result
After the runner came off, we restored the original curved oak staircase and coordinated its finish with the surrounding rooms.
