A stair conversion is more than a new tread surface. This Mississauga project brought the leading step, winders, risers, posts and railing into one scope. Further examples show when refinishing can preserve existing wood.

The existing vinyl-clad railing was removed and replaced with red-oak handrails, new posts with stainless-steel inserts and shoe-free stainless-steel balusters.
The original stair had a vinyl-clad railing and a rounded leading step. Its changing tread shapes and upper landing had to work with the replacement system.
The existing stair arrangement provided the starting point for fitted caps and railing work. New visible components were coordinated through the leading step, winders and landing.
Red-oak caps, new pie-shaped treads, a landing and risers were fitted. The vinyl-clad railing was replaced with red-oak handrails, posts with stainless-steel inserts and shoe-free stainless-steel balusters.
The leading step was squared and extended to the back wall. Prepared stringers and the post-to-stair connections completed the transition between the stair and adjoining surfaces.
The finished view shows a continuous hardwood stair with white vertical surfaces and a coordinated railing from the first step through the upper guard.
