Builder Kitchen Redesigned for More Storage & Counter Space in Newmarket

The original layout lined both sides of the galley with builder-grade cabinets, but much of that volume was difficult to use well. Drawer configuration was limited, deep cabinets depended on inefficient shelving, and upper-cabinet space did not provide the practical capacity its size suggested.

Counter space was also interrupted by the layout and appliances. The refrigerator projected too far into the kitchen, while the door between the kitchen and dining room used adjoining floor area whenever it swung open. No structural wall problem was involved; the issue was how the available space had been organized.

Complete replacement cabinetry allowed the internal layout to be planned around how the kitchen would actually be used. A better drawer arrangement placed storage where it was easier to reach, while a deep storage drawer created practical capacity for larger items. Shelving inside deep cabinets was improved so the space did not disappear behind hard-to-reach front rows.

Upper-cabinet storage was also made more useful, and the revised layout opened additional counter area for preparation and small appliances. The bright high-gloss finish gives the kitchen its contemporary appearance while remaining straightforward to maintain with routine cleaner and a wipe-down.

The previous refrigerator extended too far into the kitchen. Its replacement is shallower in relation to the counter line while being taller and wider, improving the appliance's fit within the new cabinetry and leaving the galley less obstructed.

Double refrigerator doors provide easier access and a more useful interior arrangement for this homeowner. The benefit here is the actual change in proportions and access; it is not a general claim that every counter-depth refrigerator has greater total capacity.

Existing pot lights were replaced and additional pot lights were installed. The revised layout distributes light more evenly along the counters, sink and cooking zone, helping the narrow room feel brighter and making the work surfaces easier to see.

The door between the kitchen and dining room was removed because the homeowner did not need it and its swing intruded into the dining-room area. Taking away the door created a more direct visual and walking connection between the two rooms.

This was not an open-concept structural renovation and no wall-removal claim is being made. The improvement came specifically from removing the existing door and leaving the opening clear.

The finished kitchen provides substantially better practical storage and more usable counter space without relying on generic luxury claims. Drawers and shelving are easier to use, deep storage is more accessible, appliances fit the room more cleanly, and integrated sink accessories reduce clutter around the main work area.

High-gloss cabinetry, quartz, 2' × 2' glossy white porcelain backsplash tile, replacement floor tile and expanded pot lighting produce a bright contemporary finish that is easier to maintain. Removing the dining-room door completes the functional change by allowing the two rooms to connect without an unnecessary door swing.
