Builder Kitchen Redesigned for More Storage & Counter Space in Newmarket
This builder-grade kitchen had cabinetry throughout but very little practical storage or workspace. Strataline reorganized the same footprint around useful drawers, better shelving, more counter space and easier everyday maintenance.

Project overview
Why the original cabinet layout fell short
Cabinets lined both sides of this Newmarket kitchen, but the deep shelves were difficult to reach and there were few useful drawers. The owners needed more working space and better access to the storage they already had room for.

Cabinets without useful access
The refrigerator projected into the galley, and the kitchen door swung into the dining room. Replacing the cabinets, choosing a shallower fridge and removing that door addressed three separate obstacles within the existing footprint.

Storage designed around everyday access
With complete replacement cabinetry, we could organize drawers and shelves around how the kitchen would be used. A deep drawer holds larger items, while improved shelving makes the back of deep cabinets easier to reach.
More practical upper storage and the revised appliance layout opened additional counter area for preparation and small appliances. The bright high-gloss finish gives the room a contemporary look and is straightforward to wipe clean.
Quartz, sink and backsplash
Fewer joints behind the sink
A quartz countertop surrounds the undermount sink. The touch-free faucet, filtered-water outlet and built-in soap dispenser group the sink fittings together.
Glossy white porcelain tiles, each 2 by 2 feet, form the backsplash. Their large size means fewer grout joints to clean.
Appliance planning
Fitting the refrigerator to the galley
The previous refrigerator extended too far into the kitchen. We fitted a counter-depth replacement that sits closer to the counter line while providing the taller, wider format chosen for the new cabinetry.
Double doors make the refrigerator easier for this homeowner to access and reduce the amount of door swing projecting into the galley.
Gas cooking and ventilation
Changing from electric cooking to gas
The former electric / halogen setup was replaced with the gas range the homeowner preferred. We incorporated the range into the redesigned cabinet and counter plan so the cooking zone fits cleanly into the galley.
A new 480 CFM range hood provides extraction above the gas cooking surface.
Lighting and flooring

We replaced the floor tile and the existing pot lights, then added more lights over the kitchen work areas.
Dining-room connection
Removing an unnecessary dining-room door
The door between the kitchen and dining room was removed because its swing intruded into the dining area. The wall and doorway stayed in place.

The new drawers and shelves make more of the cabinet space accessible. The counter-depth refrigerator sits closer to the counters, and the open doorway connects the galley to the dining room.
