The staircase in this newly built Toronto home had already been sanded and refinished three times, but the colour still did not match the surrounding floor. Correcting it required more than another coat of stain—it meant taking the wood back to a controlled starting point, developing the colour in the home's actual lighting and rebuilding the finish properly.
The homeowner reported three previous refinishing attempts. Photographs show uneven colour, sanding marks, trapped debris and scratches, with the stair finish failing to relate to the surrounding hardwood.
The existing red-oak staircase was taken back to bare wood for colour correction. Railing components were removed where needed to reach the wood surfaces.
Containment and dust-controlled sanding established a clean starting point. A light base and grey colour layer were developed on site before the protective finish was rebuilt.
There was no spare flooring sample to send away. The stain was evaluated beside the installed floor under the home’s actual light, with railing work coordinated around sanding access.
The corrected stair finish now relates to the adjacent hardwood. The photographs follow the original colour problem, bare-wood preparation and completed staircase.
