Discreet Accessibility Handrail for a Toronto Home

An occupational therapist referred this Toronto project: a handrail beside one entrance step. We matched the new rail to the existing staircase’s rounded profile and dark stain.

Project overview

One handrail for one entrance step

The homeowner needed support at a single step beside the entrance. We added a short wall-mounted handrail, using the existing staircase as the reference for its size, shape and finish.

The step and staircase stayed as they were. The new rail provides a handhold on the wall beside the change in level.

Matching the existing staircase

We matched the rounded profile and size of the existing handrail. Compact brackets attach the short rail to the wall.

A rounded wood profile, coordinated dark stain and compact wall bracket keep the handrail discreet.

Matching the stain

The dark stain brings the new rail close in colour to the existing staircase. Its shape and finish let it sit naturally with the surrounding woodwork.
