Project overview

A historic safe door became the defining feature of Axiom's boardroom

Axiom Real-Time Metrics selected a substantial historic safe-door assembly as the central architectural feature for its boardroom in Mississauga, Ontario. The assembly was more than 50 years old, weighed approximately 15 tons and had never been designed to fit a conventional modern office partition.

The work combined custom commercial construction with detailed metal fabrication. Strataline coordinated the surrounding boardroom modification, safe-door installation and purpose-made stainless components within its commercial and interior renovation work .

An unusual boardroom feature

The historic assembly required a completely custom approach

The original safe-door assembly brought its own dimensions, weight, mechanical clearances and aged metalwork. Integrating it into a contemporary office environment could not be handled as a standard door opening or an off-the-shelf architectural detail.

The closed and open source views established the assembly's actual geometry before the final integration. Those conditions guided the custom framing, metal adaptation and clearances required around the door.

Planning and AutoCAD

Custom components were laid out in AutoCAD before fabrication

AutoCAD drawings were used to develop the purpose-made details and coordinate the surrounding construction. The drawings translated the safe assembly's existing geometry into components that could be cut, formed and fitted for the boardroom.

This planning stage connected design decisions with fabrication and installation. It gave the team a controlled reference for the custom framing, stainless-steel pieces and final alignment instead of relying on field adjustment alone.

Heavy modification

Extensive drilling and metalwork adapted the assembly to modern construction

The approximately 15-ton safe-door assembly required extensive drilling, heavy metal modification and repeated fitting. The work had to respect the historic assembly while adapting its connection points and surrounding details to the boardroom construction.

Cutting and drilling were coordinated with custom framing and the planned finished surfaces. Each stage moved the installation closer to final alignment while preserving the safe door as the visual centre of the room.

Custom stainless-steel fabrication

Purpose-made stainless components completed the architectural surround

The stainless-steel details were not stock trim pieces. Components were cut, bent, welded, formed, polished and fitted specifically for this installation, following the AutoCAD layouts and the dimensions confirmed at the safe door.

Precision mattered at the long horizontal and vertical edges. The formed stainless had to meet the historic metalwork cleanly while creating a consistent transition to the modern boardroom finishes.

The closed assembly changed from an unfinished installation to a complete boardroom feature

These photographs compare the safe door in its closed position before and after the custom metalwork and surrounding construction were completed. The viewpoints are complementary rather than pixel-aligned, so they are presented as an honest paired record instead of an interactive overlay.

The finished stainless surround, fitted wall edges and boardroom finishes give the heavy historic assembly a deliberate place within the modern commercial interior.

The open position reveals the scale of the completed installation

The second paired record follows the assembly in its open position. It shows how the door, frame, stainless details and adjoining boardroom construction were brought together while maintaining the clearances required by the substantial historic metalwork.

The completed open view also makes the physical scale of the door more apparent within the boardroom. The installation remains visually consistent whether the door is photographed open or closed.

Final integration

Historic metalwork and modern boardroom construction now read as one feature

Final fitting and assembly brought together the safe door, custom stainless components and surrounding commercial finishes. The goal was a resolved architectural installation rather than a historic object placed beside unrelated modern construction.

The closed view presents a strong stainless composition across the boardroom wall. The open view records the depth and physical presence of the approximately 15-ton assembly while keeping the completed detailing visible around it.
