Bilateral Handrails & Exterior Accessibility Railing in Fort Erie

The existing custom handrail first had to be taken apart. Once the assembly was open, the mounting was found to use an inappropriate type of wall anchor for this application. The underlying attachment therefore had to be corrected before the rail could be restored and returned to service.

The process photographs document the disassembled handrail components and fasteners while the condition was being assessed. They support the sequence without assigning an anchor manufacturer, fastener size, wall construction or load rating that was not documented.

The retained handrail already belonged visually in the home, so discarding it was unnecessary. Strataline corrected the mounting behind the installation, restored the existing custom rail and reinstalled it as part of the finished interior arrangement.

The work reflects the same existing-home approach used in Strataline's residential handrail and railing projects : preserve a useful component where practical, but do not conceal an inappropriate underlying attachment simply because the visible rail can be reused.

The exterior front steps also needed a defined handrail. A new aluminum railing was installed along the open side of the steps to provide a durable, weather-resistant and low-maintenance exterior solution.

These photographs are complementary rather than pixel-aligned, so they are presented as a paired record instead of an interactive overlay. The before view establishes the open step edge; the finished view shows the aluminum system connecting the lower approach with the porch level.

The Fort Erie home sits directly along the shoreline. That setting gives the project a distinctive visual context and reinforces why the exterior system needed to be appropriate for outdoor use, durable and low maintenance.

No marine-grade specification, corrosion rating, coating system or lifetime guarantee is assigned to the railing. The confirmed project fact is that aluminum was selected as a practical exterior material for the front-step support.

The completed project combines three practical outcomes: the inappropriate existing handrail attachment was corrected, the useful custom rail was restored, and an added opposite-side handrail created bilateral interior support.

Outside, the aluminum railing adds a durable, low-maintenance support point over the front steps. Together, the modifications place support where it was needed while remaining appropriate to the existing home rather than making the property feel institutional.
